Today I tried a Cohiba Panetelas from 2003, which is a hand made short filler. I don’t usually smoke short fillers but one of the reasons why I couldn’t resist getting a few of these cigars are the beautiful retro bands. 2003 was actually the last year that they used these particular bands.
I must say I was pleasantly surprised by this tiny cigar. I paired it with some chocolate, half a cinnamon roll and some sweetened Assam tea, which seemed to go perfectly together.
The cigar itself gave off a mix of sweet and tangy flavours making it quite the treat. It started out with some sweet vanilla tastes. Then the tangy flavours like ginger and citrus made their entrances. It all ended with a big mocha and chocolaty finally. My only complaints are that the draw was a little tight and the smoking experience was way too short. This beautiful little cigar lasted a little over 20 minutes. For me it couldn’t have lasted long enough.
I think this would be an ideal first cigar for someone looking to be introduced into the vast world of Cuban cigars or perhaps as a morning cigar for the more experienced smoker.
